Site Plan to be Presented at Public Meeting for New 30 Acre Park in West Duluth

(meeting location changed to Harrison Community Center)

[Duluth, MN] - The public is invited to attend a second community meeting to discuss the creation of a City park on a 30 acre abandoned quarry site. The property is located below Skyline Parkway in West Duluth, and above the neighborhood between 46th Avenue West and 59th Avenue West and is informally referred to as Quarry Park. The purpose of the meeting is to review a draft site plan based on the community input gathering from the first public meeting held on January 14 and comments submitted by the public.

The public meeting will take place on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 5:30-7:00 pm at the Harrison Community Center, 3002 West 3rd St.

The final Mini-Master Plan for Quarry Park will be used as a tool for planning and implementing improvements to the park by the City of Duluth, with the assistance of community partners.

Anyone unable to attend this meeting, may email comments to Lisa Luokkala, Project Coordinator, at lluokkala@duluthmn.gov or call Lisa at (218)730-4312. Additional information as well as the online comment form is available on the project web page at  http://www.duluthmn.gov/st-louis-river-corridor/quarry-park/

Quarry Park is part of the larger St. Louis River Corridor Initiative: Connecting People to the River. The St. Louis River Corridor Initiative invests in public park and trail improvements from Lincoln Park to the Fond du Lac neighborhood. The overall goals of the Initiative are to support the natural environment, enrich neighborhood quality of life, attract new home buyers, establish new visitor destinations and stimulate appropriate development. Initiative projects are funded in part by $18 million in bonds, collected through the ½ and ½ tourism tax approved by the Minnesota Legislature in 2014. These funds will leverage additional dollars through community partnerships and grants.
