INCIDENT LOCATION: 5834 Tioga St.
At 10:03 on Friday January 22nd, 2016 the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming out of a window at a private residence.
Upon arrival the first company found smoke and flame coming from the main floor of the house. Fire crews deployed hose lines and entered the structure and began putting out the fire. Heavy flame was coming out of the south end of the house with dark smoke banked down near the floor. A resident of the home who was sleeping at the time, was able to get out of the house and call 911 before Firefighters arrived. The fire was soon knocked down and searches began for possible victims, all persons were out and accounted for. A cat was found alive during the search process and brought outside.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. 21 Firefighters were on the scene at this fire.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and is still being investigated by the Duluth Fire Marshals office.
Damage is estimated to be in excess of $85,000
The Duluth Fire Department would like to urge all citizens to make sure that they have working smoke detectors in their places of residence.
