At 09:11 a.m. on Thursday January 14th, 2016 the Duluth Fire Department responded to a call of a an explosion at a private residence.
Upon the arrival of 4 Quint, it was reported that the back yard was littered with debris consistent with an explosion. Firefighters searched the two-story home for a report of a missing dog. The two occupants that were home at the time of the explosion had left the house without injuries. The dog was later confirmed to be at the neighbor's home.
21 firefighters responded to the call and remained on scene for two hrs. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
Initial indications attribute the explosion to a leak in a propane heating system. Damage is estimated to be $230,000.00
