Trail Restoration Projects Due to Flood Damage to be Completed This Fall

Work has begun by A+ Landscaping on several projects to restore trails that were damaged in the flood of 2012. These include work along the old Duluth Winnipeg Pacific rail bed, on old Thomson Hill Road leading up from the Zoo, a trail leading up from 95th Avenue West and various locations on the western snowmobile trail system. We expect the work to be completed this fall, weather permitting.

We have been hearing from citizens, contractors and others about additional improvements that could be made to the various trail systems. However, we must ‘hold-the-line’ on any improvements and may only work on what FEMA identified back in 2012 as flood-related damages. We may only restore infrastructure back to pre-disaster condition.

The entry locations for contractors to get into the damaged sites are: Clyde Ave and W 95th Street, Gogebic Street, Knowlton Creek Boulevard, Redruth Street, Waseca Street, Vinland Street, Westgate Boulevard, Earl Street and Russell Road.

Any questions about the project can be directed to Tom Pfeffer, City of Duluth Engineer at tpfeffer@duluthmn.gov or 218-730-5104.
