Duluth Parks Sponsors Free Activities for the Public

 

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation division offers multiple free activities for kids and families throughout the summer months. All activities are free and the public has options for outdoor as well as indoor recreation no matter the age.

The Bayfront Family Center, located in Bayfront Festival Park, is open all summer until September 17, with the exception of special events. This coming week, the Family Center will only be open only on Monday, August 3rd from 11 AM to 7 PM due to set up for the annual BluesFest. Recreational equipment is available for use at no charge.

Those who prefer indoor activities can participate in the weekly Wednesday Open Skate at the Duluth Heritage Center, 120 S. 30th Ave West, from 2-4 PM. Bring your own skates. Summer Open Skate hours run until August 26. 

Area youth have a chance to learn about sports and sportmanship while working with college athletes as part of the Champions Building Champions program, conducted in partnership with Men as Peacemakers. This program runs every Wednesday at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center  from 1-3 PM until August 19.

Toddlers and preschool age children are welcome to participate in interactive play time at the Duluth Heights Community Center, 33 West Mulberry St., every Tuesday from 9:30-11:30 AM.

Bring your family and friends to Movies in the Park, sponsored by the Greater Downtown Council every Friday in Leif Erikson Park until August 28. Movies start at various times. Check the weblink before for specific times.

Music lovers can enjoy Chester Creek Concerts on Tuesday evenings at 7 PM in Chester Bowl Park. The last concert of the summer is scheduled for August 4 featuring Charlie Parr.

Recreational opportunities are free to the public. The City of Duluth encourages kids and their families to stay active with healthy and nurturing activities.
