At 13:49 on Friday, May 1st, 2015, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a garage fire at 12302 Hwy. 23. Upon the first companies arrival, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from both of the garage doors. There was a attached garage that was approximately the same size as the one that was destroyed, that belonged to the neighbor, this garage was saved by fire crews.
There were oxygen and acetylene tanks that were in the garage, that were on fire and venting when fire crews arrived. The owner was on site and called 911, he was unhurt. The fire was quickly knocked down. Traffic was stopped on Hwy. 23 while a water supply line crossed the road, Duluth Police were on scene to monitor that situation. A fire investigator was called, and he has determined this fire to be accidental. Damage is estimated to be in excess of $50,000 dollars. No further information is available at this time.
