[Duluth, MN] - The Duluth Invaders, a service initiative of the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation division, is excited to announce a call for volunteers to serve on a new R²ED Team.  R²ED Team members (or “Rapid Response and Early Detection” Team members) will support the City of Duluth’s effort to educate the public on the harmful impacts of non-native, invasive plants, as well as have a hand in pushing back invasive terrestrial plants from City park land.

 

The goal of the Duluth Invaders service initiative is to support invasive species eradication, native habitat restoration and community education on the negative impacts of invasive, non-native plants. R²ED Team projects can take place in parks, trails, and other public property close to one’s home or a favorite spot.

 

R²ED Team members are asked to volunteer a minimum of 3 - 5 hours a month.  Interested R²ED Team members are asked to submit an application by Friday, April 3^rd, 2015 and will be required to attend a three-hour training in mid-April.  The exact time and date of the training will be determined based on the availability of our R²ED Team members.

 

“We are looking for motivated community members who are interested in taking up the battle against invasive species to keep Duluth’s ecosystems as healthy as possible,” says Ryan Timmerman, the City’s Invasive Species Project Technician.
