Ribbon cutting ceremony for new pavilion
4951 Jean Duluth Road
[Duluth, MN] - The community is invited to join Mayor Don Ness, members of the Duluth soccer community and the Bob Pratt family to dedicate a new pavilion in honor of Bob, at the Jean Duluth Soccer Complex (4951 Jean Duluth Road, Duluth) on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 4:00 PM.
Bob Pratt was an active member of the soccer community and died of cancer in May 2011 at the age of 58. Bob was active in coordinating various soccer clubs, was a member of Arrowhead Youth Soccer Association Board of Directors, a founder and active member of Fields for Duluth, a founder of the East Select Soccer Club, helped establish the Lake Superior Open Soccer Tournament, coached many teams, and volunteered in many other soccer projects. Bob was instrumental in establishing several soccer fields in Duluth and was arguably the primary force behind the establishment of the Jean Duluth Soccer Complex.
The new pavilion will provide much needed weather shelter, storage, and a permanent concessions facility at the Jean Duluth Soccer Complex for the thousands of players from the Duluth area, as well as the Twin Cities and beyond, who play there every summer. Over 100 individuals, families, organizations and businesses contributed to the project. Significant funding came from local Rotary clubs: Harbortown Rotary, Rotary Club of Duluth #25, and Skyline Rotary. The City of Duluth owns the land and provided assistance with trenching, landscaping and setting the building foundation.
Mayor Ness, Dave Geary, and members of the Pratt family will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony, provide brief comments, and be available for questions.
Questions about the press conference can be directed to Dave Geary, Arrowhead Youth Soccer Association Executive Director, at aysa@chartermi.net or (218) 624-1713.
