Just after 8:00 this evening, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a lightning strike at 3955 Fountaingate Drive in Duluth. Upon arrival smoke and fire was visible in the attic of a two family dwelling. Firefighters quickly accessed the fire through the roof and worked to minimize the spread of the fire. No extension of the fire into the living space. The fire was caused by a lightning strike at the peak of the roof, which subsequently ignited multiple fires in the attic space.
The home was occupied, and the owners escaped without injury. Initial damages are set at $35,000. Firefighters from the Miller Mall Station, Headquarters and West Duluth responded.
