 At 10:57 p.m, on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, the Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a report by a neighbor of flames inside a house on 3rd Avenue East below 7th. Street.  The fire department arrived to find a 11/2 story single family dwelling with smoke coming from all sides and both floors of the building and heavy fire from the front windows on the first floor.

Crews initiated an interior fire attack and quickly knocked down the fire on the first floor. Crews were able to complete a search of the structure for occupants and found no one in the house.

The fire had entered multiple void spaces on the second floor and significant efforts were required to locate all pockets of fire and complete overhaul.

Fire units were on the scene for approximately 3 1/2 hours.

The house and contents are a total loss.  An intial damage estimate would be in excess of $75,000.00.

20 firefighters form the Downtown,Lincoln Park, and UMD stations responded to the fire.

At the time of this press release, we have not made contact with the property owner.  It appeared as if the house had been occupied or recently occupied.

Cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's Office.

There were no injuries.
