 At 06:44 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a possible structure fire at 4201 W 6th St. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke coming from the upstairs apartment. Fire had originated on the 2nd floor unit.

The tenant was awoken by their smoke detector, and encountered smoke and flames at the bathroom ceiling level. Occupants tried to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher, but were unsuccessful. They left the apartment area and call 911 after roughly 10 minutes.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, and will be under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.

Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at more than $50,000. There were on injuries. Tenants are unable to return to the apartment during investigation. 

21 firefighters from Lincoln Park, Spirit Valley, and downtown responded to this incident.
