DULUTH LEGACY ENDOWMENT FUND NOW ACCEPTING GRANT REQUESTS

DULUTH, MN—The Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund is fulfilling its vision of supporting and preserving important community assets and services through private donations.  The Fund provides grants for arts and culture, education, health and wellness, and other activities that help keep the community prosperous and beautiful.  Departments of the City of Duluth are eligible to receive grants and are invited to submit grant requests by February 1st to the Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund, a fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.  Although all grants need to be made to a department of the City of Duluth, the City anticipates frequently partnering with a 501c3 organization in applying for and utilizing the grant funds.  Thus, 501c3 organizations are encouraged to collaborate with the City in applying for grants. Grants will be made upon the recommendation of the Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund Committee and the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation Board of Trustees, as approved by the City of Duluth. Applicants interested in applying for Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund grants may apply at www.duluthlegacyfund.org

Since its creation in 2005, the Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund has made over $15,456 in grants that enhance the amenities and programs in the City of Duluth. Representative examples of projects which could be recipients of Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund
grants include:

  • After-school activities
  • Intergenerational and senior programs
  • Health and wellness activities
  • Wetlands conservation, restoration, and preservation
  • Park or trail enhancement
  • Community arts projects
  • Crime and drug prevention programs for youth
  • Youth recreational activities
  • Community clean-up efforts

Grant requests will be evaluated for funding based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance of the project to the Fund’s mission and program development goals
  • Evidence of need and public purpose (i.e., how the community would benefit from the project)
  • Clarity of project budget and project evaluation plan
  • Projects having secured sponsorship of the applicable city department

Please call the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation at 218.726.0232 with any questions.
