 At 0342 hrs on Sunday, November 24, 2013, the Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a "fire in the hallway" at 320 N. 27th Ave West.  The first arriving engine from the fire station at 27th Ave W and Superior Street, observed smoke coming from multiple windows on the 2nd floor of the structure.

The fire was located in a storage room on the 2nd floor, at the rear of an single family dwelling that was being used as an up and down duplex.  While the fire was quickly extinguished, crews remained on the scene for more than 2 hours to assist fire investigators and complete overhaul operations.

The upstairs occupant awoke to (what he described) as a loud noice and discovered the fire. He evacuated prior to our arrival after attempting to fight the fire with a fire extinguisher.  The downstairs limited mobility occupant, who was not under immediate threat from the fire, was assisted out the house by Duluth Police Officers while fire crews began fire attack on the 2nd floor.

Damage to structure and contents is estimated at $20,000.00.  The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.

There were no injuries.
