 At 0926 this morning, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a "report of a house on fire in the back" at 1455 89th Ave W.  This address is located in the Morgan Park neighborhood.   The first fire unit on the scene found smoke coming from the rear of the structure.  The fire was attacked through the front door and quickly extinguished.  Heavy fire damage was confined to the kitchen.  There was significant smoke damage throughout the 2 story townhouse that was one of the four units in the building.  The occupants were not at home at the time of the fire.

No injuiries were reported.  Initial damage is estimated at $35,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the contents.

A preliminary investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office has determined that a dishwasher malfunction was the cause of this fire.

The occupantsof the unit are being assisted by the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross.
