At approximately 1:30 this afternoon, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a deck on fire at 510 E 11th St. Upon arrival, we found a tenant of the property attempting to extinguish a fire on a rear deck.
The tenant received minor burns during his attempt. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and removed a portion of the rear decking to facilitate extinguishment.
The cause of the fire is determined to be improper disposal of hot ashes from a barbeque grill the night before.
Residents are reminded that disposing of any ashes should only be done into a non-combustible container.
The damage to the deck is estimated at $2500.
