NATURE OF INCIDENT: House fire
CASE NO.: 13000595
INCIDENT DATE: 1/20/2013
INCIDENT TIME: 10:38 A.M.
INCIDENT LOCATION: 2867 Exeter St
A house fire with flames showing from the eaves and two children and two adults still inside was reported at 10:38 A.M. today. Duluth Firefighters responded and found that all persons had evacuated and that no one was injured. The attic was heavily involved with fire, which was quickly extinguished. Damage was extensive, estimated at 40,000 for the structure and $10,000 for the contents. 22 firefighters were on the scene. All units were clear of the scene at approximately 1:30 P.M. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical problem in the attic.
The building occupants were alerted to the fire by the smoke detectors. This fire could have been disastrous if it had happened at night without working smoke detectors. The Duluth Fire Department reminds everyone to test their smoke detectors monthly to ensure that they are operating properly. Smoke detectors should be replaced every ten years.
