At 0005 this morning, the Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to report of a possible structure fire at 2407 W. 3rd St. Upon arrival, crews found a kitchen fire in the second floor unit of a two story duplex.
Initial crews evacuated occupants from the first floor apartment and attacked the fire upstairs while other arriving crews searched for victims. Luckily, no one was home in the upstairs unit at the time of the fire.
Initial damages are set at $15,000 plus $5,000 for contents. The fire was contained to the kitchen and quickly extinguished. Lower level occuants were allowed to return to their home.
No injuries were reported and the Duluth Fire Marshal's office is investigating as to origin and cause of the blaze. Crews responded from Lincoln Park, Downtown and West Duluth.
