Trail Recovery Corps to Begin Work on Various Trail Systems in Duluth
City of Duluth and Community Action Duluth Team Up to Fix Flood Affected Trails; Community Volunteers Needed to Support Effort

Beginning on Monday, August 20, the Trail Recovery Corps, a team of individuals hired through a grant provided to Community Action Duluth, will be out on City of Duluth local trails, working to mend the damage caused by the June flash flood.

“We are so excited to make this opportunity available to the community,” says Angie Miller, Executive Director, Community Action Duluth. This initiative, she explains, was made possible through an anonymous grant made to Community Action Duluth from a sister community action agency in another part of the state. “The grant provided a unique way to offer not only an employment opportunity but also the chance to assist in much needed flood relief efforts on our city trails.”

The Trail Recovery Corps will be working alongside City of Duluth staff, focusing on various trail systems over the next four weeks.

“We are going to have the team focus first on the Lincoln Park trails,” states Judy Gibbs, Trail Coordinator, City of Duluth. “Many of our trails suffered significant damage and the Trail Recovery Corps is going to help us get repairs done, from filling in washouts to installing waterbars and resetting culverts.”

Volunteers are needed to assist in the Corps' efforts. Volunteers will be needed Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Any individual interested in volunteering should contact Cheryl Skafte, Volunteer Coordinator, City of Duluth, at cskafte@duluthmn.gov or 218-393-9879.
