The Duluth Fire Department responded to report of flames inside building on lower level at 5702 W 8th St. Upon arrival firefighters from West Duluth station 8 reported smoke coming from a window on the first floor.
Firefighters were able to control the fire within 30 minutes and also extinguished extension of the fire into the basement of the multiple unit structure. The entire building is unoccupied and condemned for human habition.
Initial damage estimates are $20,000. Origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Fire Marshal's office.
