NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire at 1724 E. 5th St
CASE NO.: 12-003296
INCIDENT DATE: 5/5/2012
INCIDENT TIME: 03:55
INCIDENT LOCATION: 1724 E. 5th St

At 0355 hours this morning, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a back porch on fire at 1724 E. 5th St. Upon arrival, crews found a large, three story single family home fully involved in the rear, on all levels. The house was occupied by the owners at the time of the fire, but everyone made it out safely.

Crews advanced hoselines into the interior of the house, battling heavy fire on the first and second floors, as well as heavy fire on the exterior of the building. A second alarm was called to ensure adequate resources were on scene.

The fire was knocked down and controlled before it could advance into the front half of the house. Crews were on the scene for approximately 3 hours overhauling and extinguishing hot spots.

There were no injuries reported during this fire, and initial damage estimates are set at $75,000 to the structure, and an additional $50,000 to contents. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshals Office.

The displaced family is in contact with the Red Cross. Crews from stations at UMD, Woodland, Lakeside, Headquarters, Lincoln Park and West Duluth responded to the fire.
