The Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 414 W. House St at 6:18 a.m. this morning. The fire started last night while the homeowner was sweating pipe joints in the basement. The owner believed that he had extinguished the fire with a hose a number of times over the course of the night before he called for help from the fire department. Fire crews were forced to break open walls to ensure the fire was put out. Fire crews were on scene approximately two and one half hours. Damages are estimated at $40,000 to the structure and $10,000 to contents.
