INCIDENT LOCATION: 819 E 1st St
Duluth firefighters responded to investigate smoke in the area just West of St. Luke's Hospital at 00:33 on 11/23/2011. The crew of Number One Engine found fire and heavy smoke in the first floor apartment of a vacant duplex at 819 E 1st St. They initiated a full fire alarm response which brought a total of seventeen firefighters to the scene. The fire was extinguished and was found to have burned a number of holes through the hardwood floor in the livingroom and dining room. A fire investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire. Fire crews were on the scene for two hours and twenty minutes. Damages are estimated at $25,000.
