INCIDENT LOCATION: 2522 1/2 W 2nd St
The Duluth Fire Department responded to a 911 report of a structure fire at 0133 hours this morning at 2522 1/2 W 2nd St. The original report was for a building fire with no persons in the residence. 19 firefighters in 7 fire apparatus responded to fight the fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find that the basement of the two story duplex was fully involved in fire. They forced the door to the basement and knocked down some of the fire from the exterior. They then entered the basement and finished extinguishing the fire. The fire had also extended to the 1st floor through a heating duct and started a couch burning on that level. The door on this level was also breached and the fire was extinguished. A search of all levels confirmed that there were no occupants in the fire building.
The fire did not extend to the 2nd floor or into the attic, although these areas recieved heavy smoke and heat damage. A second home on the property did not receive any fire damage. No firefighters were injured during the firefighting effort.
Damage to the home is extimated at $80,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshall's Office.
