The Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a structure fire at 04:10 this morning. Upon arriving at 316 E. 4th St., fire companies found a three story apartment building with a fire in the lower level apartment.
Crews evacuated the second and third floor apartments, and no one was home in the lower level unit. Crews worked quickly to gain access and extinguish the fire; containing it to a single room. The remainder of the building was ventilated of smoke and while the lowest level is uninhabitable, the upper units were able to be occupied again.
The Duluth Fire Marshal's Office is investigating as to origin and cause of the fire. No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $20,000.
