INCIDENT LOCATION: 915 E. 1st St.
The Duluth Fire Department responded to an automatic fire alarm at St. Lukes Hospital at 0937 this morning. Upon arrival flames were seen coming from an exterior roof structure near the south west entrance to the hospital.
The alarm was eventually upgraded to a full alarm response as fire companies worked to access the hidden fire before it could get inside the building. The fire was stopped prior to getting inside, but there was significant smoke inside the building; prompting a partial staff evacuation and activation of the hospital's emergency plan(s) while fire companies ventialted the affected areas..
There were no injuries reported and damage estimates are initially set at $50,000. The Duluth Fire Marshal's office is investigating.
