Parks and Recreation Commission Awards Nearly $20,000 to Twelve Community Projects
The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation Commission is pleased to announced the names and projects of twelve grant recipients totaling $19,853.44. Since 2000, over $233,000. has been awarded to dozens of community organizations.
Grants for programs and facilities are a cooperative effort between the City of Duluth and the Parks and Recreation Commission. These grants of $2,500 or less were awarded as starter funds to foster and promote recreation programs, encourage the acquisition, construction, reconstruction, refurbishing, maintenance and operation of public recreation facilities and community recreation programs in the City of Duluth.
The grant recipients are:
1. $1,000.00 - Duluth Amateur Youth Basketball Association (recreational basketball enhancement)
2. $1,751.44 - Duluth YMCA Camp Kitchigami (camp - nature based recreation)
3. $2,000.00 - Duluth Superior Chargers Lacrosse Club (gear and scholarships for low-income kids)
4. $2,000.00 - COGGS (mountain bike trails for beginners in Lester Park - will be multiuse)
5. $2,000.00 - Salvation Army/Rookie Basketball (equipment and scholarships for low-income kids)
6. $1,300.00 - Chester Bowl Improvement Club (new terrain park to supplement winter programs)
7. $925.00 - Superior Hiking Trail Assoc. (watershed awareness signage along the trail)
8. $2,000.00 - Morgan Park Comm. Club (picnic pavilion)
9. $2,000.00 - Kids Café Damiano Center (install safety surface to provide safe recreation space)
10. $1,227.00 - Northwood Children’s Services (refurbish Park Point beach house)
11. $1,650.00 - Hartley Nature Center (set up Orienteering Course at Hartley Field)
12. $2,000.00 - Portman Recreation Association/Amateur Hockey (refurbish facility & new equip garage)
