SUBJECT: Red Flag Warning Today along Park Point Beach
BY: Amy Norris, Public Information Coordinator

Park Point public beaches closed due to unsafe swimming conditions. Red Flag Warning issued.

Duluth Parks and Recreation has announced that all public beaches on Park Point are closed.  A "red flag" warning has been issued. The wind off Lake Superior or other weather conditions are creating unsafe swimming conditions and the potential for rip currents.

Persons are urged to stay out of the water on the Lake Superior side of Park Point until further notice

Please be reminded of the rip current flag warning system:
Green: rip current threat is low
Yellow: rip current threat is moderate
Red: rip current threat is high.

The flags have been placed at three strategic locations - at the 12th Street South "s" curve on Minnesota Avenue, at the Lafayette Community Center, and on the curve in front of the playground at the entrance to Park Point.

The Duluth Fire Department is responsible for changing the flags, based on the National Weather Service's rip current risk forecast.
