NATURE OF INCIDENT: Garage Fire @ 309 E 6th St.
CASE NO.: 11-003285
INCIDENT DATE: 5/21/2011
INCIDENT TIME: 23:16
INCIDENT LOCATION: 309 E. 6th St.
At 23:16 hours Saturday night, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a fully involved detached garage fire at 309 E. 6th Street. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire venting from the garage, located in the alley. Fire had burned through several overhead electrical lines, making it impossible to place fire department vehicles into the alley.
Handlines were stretched from the avenue and the fire was extinguished quickly. The building is a total loss, and the radiant heat from the fire damaged the siding on a nearby home.
Duluth Police were on scene and MInnesota Power personnel arrived quickly to ensure firefighters were able to work safely. There were no injuries reported, and the initial damage estimates are set at $20,000.
The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation. This is the second garage fire in the area in less than a week. Firefighters from Headquarters, UMD and Lincoln Park responded to the blaze.
