SUBJECT: Parks and Recreation Commission Resumes Recreation Grant Program for 2011

Parks and Recreation Commission resumes the Recreation Grant Program for 2011. Grant deadline May 19th.

The City of Duluth, through its Parks Commission and Parks and Recreation Division, is pleased to be able to resume the Recreation Grant Program for the year 2011. Non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply for this community recreation grant. All non-profit organizations are eligible to apply for the grants which will be issued in the amount of $2,000 or less and must be matched with money, materials, or labor.

The purpose of these grants is to act as starter funds to foster and promote community recreation programs and to encourage the acquisition, construction, reconstruction, refurbishing, maintenance, and operation of public recreation facilities in the city of Duluth. Community projects that have received past support from this program have included new basketball backboard and break away rims at a neighborhood teen center, landscaping and construction of an accessible pathway at a playground and the purchase of sailing craft and life jackets for the community sailing program.

The grant application is available on the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation website: http://www.duluthmn.gov/parks/index.cfm. Grant applications mus be completed and submitted to the City of Duluth Parks Commission at 12 East 4th Street, Duluth, MN 55805 no later than May 19th.
