SUBJECT: Cleaning and Greening Enger Park on Global Youth Service Day

"Cleaning and Greening" Enger Park on Global Youth Service Day
On Friday, April 15th beginning at 10:00 AM volunteers will celebrate Global Youth Service Day by "cleaning and greening" Enger Park. Nearly 200 volunteers are registered to participate in this day-long event that will have people pulling buckthorn, picking up litter, cleaning up cigarette butts, raking gardens and more.
Students from Unity High School, Central/Denfeld, East High Schools, Homecroft and Nettleton Elementary all will be volunteering at Enger Park during the day. Unity students are providing training on invasive species and have written poetry celebrating Enger Park. Central/Denfeld students have identified and tagged the invasive species buckthorn throughout the park while others are creating art projects that will be donated to an art auction to support the tower restoration for the "Art for Enger" project. Homecroft students will be leading a geocaching event in the afternoon.The Duluth Public Schools Office of Service Learning has helped teachers and students connect the Global Youth Service Day "Cleaning and Greening" project with what is being taught in the classroom.

"Cleaning and Greening" in Enger Park is a Global Youth Service Day project coordinated by the YMCA, True North AmeriCorps and the Minnesota Education Corps, Friends of the Park, American Lung Association, City of Duluth, ISD 709 and the Duluth Public Schools Office of Service Learning.
