Spirit Valley Community Center

Project Status: Planning

Project Overview:

The Duluth Spirit Valley Community Center (SVCC) will be a 36,000 sf multi-purpose community center located in Memorial Park adjacent to Laura MacArthur Elementary in western Duluth. The Community Center will house all-ages wellness and recreation programming, workforce development, indoor sport courts able to host regional tournaments, and a community health clinic. It is anticipated that the project will also enable Duluth Public Schools to establish Laura MacArthur Elementary as Duluth Public School's fourth community school.

Construction of the Spirit Valley Community Center supports longstanding parks infrastructure goals of striving for a smaller number of higher quality facilities that are better maintained and used. The SVCC would replace seven previously removed community centers in western Duluth.

Funding Source:

The City of Duluth is in the process of requesting and securing funding to support the project. Funding sources could include State General Obligation Bonds, City funding from the St. Louis River Corridor and Athletic Venue Reinvestment Initiative (Half-and-Half tourism taxes), Federal Coronavirus Capital Projects Program, Congressionally Directed Spending Appropriation, as well as private fundraising and sponsorships.
