reLEAF Duluth Kicks Off Citizen Forestry Initiative with Volunteer Tree Planting

[Duluth, MN] - Volunteers are invited to come help plant boulevard trees with the City of Duluth on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9 AM-Noon as part Duluth Parks and Recreation's reLEAF program. These trees are replacing ash trees that were lost due to Emerald Ash Borer. This community planting event will kick-off a Citizen Forestry initiative that Duluth Parks is launching in late-2018/early-2019. Community members are being recruited to help with tree health monitoring, pruning and watering. Individuals interested in getting involved with the Citizen Forestry program are encouraged to contact Cheryl Skafte at 218-730-4334 or cskafte@duluthmn.gov for more information.

The volunteer event on Saturday is open to all volunteers 16 years of age and older. All supplies and equipment will be provided. Volunteers are asked to register their attendance at www.duluthmn.gov/parks/volunteer/volunteer-calendar. Meet up location is by the playground at the former Cobb School off Woodland Avenue on West Redwing Street. The playground is near what is now Many Rivers Montessori.

This event is made possible through funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and the U.S. Forest Service.
