Utility and road improvement projects planned in Duluth starting week of June 12

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is informing the public of two upcoming improvement projects that may impact residential commutes and transit patterns.

Gas Utility Improvement Project (East 4th Street)

Beginning Monday June 12, the City’s Contractor MP Technologies, will be constructing a new gas main along the south side of 4th Street between Wallace Avenue and Hawthorne Road. The gas line is located under the sidewalk therefore prohibiting sidewalk use on the south side. Portions of the east bound lane on 4th Street will be closed as construction activities occur. A signed detour for east bound traffic will be provided. West bound traffic will remain open during the first phase. This is a two phase project with the first phase expected to last through the end of June.

The public can expect to see crews at the work site between the hours of 7 am and 9 pm with heavy equipment required for excavation and rock removal. Excavation and rock removal activities will stop before 6 pm each day.

Additional information about phase 2 will be provided at a later date as the project advances.

Major road and utility projects are listed on the City's webpage at http://www.duluthmn.gov/duluth-progress/

Street Patching (24th Ave West)

A City crew will be pouring concrete as a permanent patch on 24th Ave West between 5th and 6th Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. This patch is necessary to improve road conditions as a result of a previous water main repair excavation. Detour signs will be posted. Southbound traffic will turn right to access 25th Ave West and northbound traffic will use 23rd Ave West to route around the project area. Access will be allowed for residents on the block. The project is scheduled to start Tuesday, June 13 and will close by the end of the work week to allow the concrete to cure. Duluth Transit Authority buses will be rerouted as a result of this project. Details can be found at www.duluthtransit.com
