Duluth Invaders seeks help tackling invasive plants

Residents invited to learn about common invasive plants at volunteer work events

 

[Duluth, MN] - Duluth Invaders, a service initiative coordinated by Duluth Parks and Recreation, is hosting a series of informational volunteer work events during the 2017 summer season to educate and inform residents of common invasive plants. Duluth Invaders staff will be on-hand and the events will cover identification, removal and disposal of five prevalent invasive plants: Garlic Mustard, Japanese Knotweed (informally known as “bamboo”), Tansy, Buckthorn, and Honeysuckle.

 

Thursday, June 1 | 6-7:30PM | Garlic Mustard | N 6th Ave E and 11th St
Meet on 6th Ave E at the alley above 11th St, parking along 6th Ave E.

 

Tuesday, June 6 | 6-7:30PM | Garlic Mustard | N 6th Ave E and 11th St
Meet on 6th Ave E at the alley above 11th St, parking along 6th Ave E.

 

Tuesday, June 13 | 6-7:30PM | Tansy | Brighton Beach

Meet near the pavilion at Brighton Beach.

Saturday, June 24 | 9-10:30AM | Japanese Knotweed | Fairmont Park
Meet near the playground next to the right-most zoo parking area off of Fremont St.

 

Tuesday, June 27 | 6-7:30PM | Japanese Knotweed | Super One East

Meet at 5928 East Superior Street in the rear/right section of Super One parking lot.

 

Tuesday, August 22 | 6-7:30PM | Buckthorn and Honeysuckle | Lincoln Park

Meet at lower parking area near the playground on Lincoln Park Drive just up from 3rd St.

 

Saturday, August 26 | 9-10:30PM | Buckthorn and Honeysuckle | Hartley Park

Meet at the parking lot near the Nature Center.

 

These events are open to families, children ages 12+, individuals and groups; no-experience necessary. All necessary tools and equipment will be provided. Please dress for the weather. Registration is encouraged, as event locations and dates are subject to change and are weather dependent.
