Pier B Resort Hotel Recognized with Excellence in Economic Development Award from Economic Development Association of Minnesota

[Duluth, MN] – The Pier B Resort Hotel was recognized by the Economic Development Association of Minnesota (EDAM) with a 2017 EDAM Excellence in Economic Development Award in the "Redevelopment" category for their reuse and revitalization of the former LaFarge Cement site on the Duluth waterfront.

EDAM chose Pier B for its creative and bold redevelopment project led by private developers, Pier B Investors, which includes the construction of a $32.8 million 140-room 84,500 square foot resort hotel finished with a restaurant, indoor pool, meeting/conference rooms and business/exercise facilities. Outdoor amenities include an outdoor hot tub, transient boat docking area, board walks and patios with fire pits, and a one-of-a-kind pedestrian bridge that connects Pier B to Bayfront Festival Park across to the east. Pier B Resort project created 86 full time positions. The project required significant site remediation achieved in partnership with the City of Duluth to access $1.5 million in clean up grants and additional private investment from the Pier B Investors.
