Construction for Electric Car Charging Station in Canal Park Rescheduled due to Weather Conditions

[Duluth, MN] - Construction for the new 9-car electric car charging station in Canal Park has been pushed back one week due to frigid temperatures. Construction will start the week of December 19 with installation of five foundation bases. Hunt Electric is anticipating the closure of the center island parking spots on Monday, December 19th. Pending fair weather conditions, Hunt will need to close the center island and the parking spots to the north, facing the rocks the week of December 26th.  Additional spaces will be needed for the trucks carrying equipment and the cranes.

Back in September, Minnesota Power, Enbridge and Hunt Electric partnered to donate and install a $377,000 solar panel electric car charging station in the parking lot by the former Endion Station building in Canal Park. The project helps with the City of Duluth's energy initiatives and enables the City to tap into renewable energy credits.

The new charging station is anticipated to be complete by May 2017 and will be maintained by the City of Duluth. The City manages another charging station located at the Duluth Depot parking lot.
