Mayor Larson Announces Staff Assignments

[Duluth, MN] - Duluth Mayor Emily Larson is announcing the assignment of Deputy Chief Mike Tusken to take on the duties of the Police Chief's office during the search for a permanent Police Chief. Tusken brings over 23 years of service to the department demonstrating leadership in past positions as Seargent and Lieutenant. Tusken has respect within the community and among his officers. Tusken was appointed Deputy Police Chief in 2006, by Chief Gordon Ramsay, to oversee the Patrol division.

“I’m confident that the Duluth Police Department will continue to provide the highest quality services under Mike’s leadership. Our search for a permanent Police Chief should prove to be insightful, comprehensive, and engaging of the community. I thank the staff and the public for their patience as we work to fill the two critical Chief positions,” said Mayor Larson.

‘Deputy Fire Chief Erik Simonson  will continue in his current capacity and has graciously taken on some of the Fire Chief responsibilities when called upon. I’m grateful that we have competent and passionate individuals who are willing to step up to the plate for the benefit of the greater community. ”

The City will be issuing the job postings for Police and Fire Chief on February 1. Two diverse selection committees have been assembled to assist with the search. The public also is encouraged to submit comments online at http://www.duluthmn.gov/human-resources/
