Become a Police Officer

Becoming a police officer in the State of Minnesota is a professional career choice. Whether you’re 18 and following a childhood dream or making a mid-life career change, there are many different ways to join our sworn police force. We hire new recruits twice per year. Learn how to prepare here.

Lateral Hire

If you’ve been a police officer for at least three years and have POST licensing in good standing or are eligible for POST, you can apply to join our team at any time during the year. Learn more and apply here.     

Civilians

Civilians play an important role in the Duluth Police Department. The dedicated men and women of our civilian staff conduct research, keep records organized, analyze data, and generally keep the place running.
