America is changing fast, and the 2020 Census will determine how more than $800 billion in federal funding is allocated each year. The census is critical for figuring out what our communities need to be healthier, safer and more successful. We have to make sure everyone is counted, and we have to start preparing now.
The state of Minnesota receives over $8.4 billion annually from large Federal assistance programs that use Census data to allocate funding. The City of Duluth is committed to the U.S. Census Bureau's count due to its importance on several key issues facing the City, including:
- Duluthians receiving the federal resources, as determined by an accurate count, for health care, education, nutrition, housing, and transportation
- Having an accurate understanding of key social, economic, and demographic conditions to make the choices necessary to address our challenges and improve our community
- Ensuring that political districts are drawn accurately and Duluthians are fairly represented at federal, state, and local levels
