Duluth Youth! The City of Duluth and its partners are asking for your help to design a mask that you would want to wear in response to COVID-19. What image, be it a superhero, favorite animal, or inspiring message would you want to wear as a mask?

We know that the Coronavirus has been a challenging time for all of us. Since most youth recognize Halloween as the time of year to wear a mask as a part of a costume, seeing adults wear masks in public during the pandemic has been confusing. We want to help families make this situation a little better, and hopefully brighter. In an effort to normalize wearing masks - out in public, on a walk, or in a store – we got together with Essentia Health, St. Luke’s, ISD709, St. Louis County, AICHO, and the Duluth Area Family YMCA to launch the Duluth Youth Mask Project.

There are many ways that you can submit your design. If you can, print this packet, use the template to create your mask, and then sign, and email, or mail us your submission. Design submissions are due by 5:00 p.m. on June 5th. Submissions can be emailed to communcations@duluthmn.gov  or mailed to City of Duluth – Communications Team- 411 West 1st Street, Duluth, MN 55802. Mailed submissions need to be postmarked by June 5th. The City will then choose several designs to highlight on the City and Mayor’s Facebook pages, in addition to displaying selected designs in City Hall.

  • Download Packet
  • Use bright colors to show your work.
  • Create a digital scan of your design and email it to communications@duluthmn.gov . If you don’t have a scanner no problem! Take a picture and email it to us.
  • Include your name, age, and school in your submission.
  • Have your parent or guardian sign the enclosed release form, and include that with your submission.

We hope that this activity helps to make you feel better about wearing a mask. We can’t wait to see your designs!
