Board and Commission Vacancies

Duluth residents are encouraged to submit an application to be considered to serve on City of Duluth boards and commissions which currently, or in the near future, will have vacancies. As vacancies occur, the Mayor's Appointments Advisory Committee will review all applicants and will make their recommendations to the Mayor.  In the normal course of business, the Advisory Committee meets in the Spring to consider appointments for terms that begin in April.  For most boards and commissions, Duluth residency is required.

To be considered to serve on any of the boards or commissions listed below, or for any other board or commission, submit an application.  Applications are kept on file for two years.


There are current and/or future openings on the following boards and commissions:

COMMISSION ON DISABILITIES - Assesses the needs of disabled persons regarding matters such as employment, housing, transportation, accessibility and equal rights and advises the city of such assessments.

DULUTH CITIZEN REVIEW BOARD - The board is an advisory body to the police department and city council, for the purpose of fostering relationships and strengthening trust and communication between the police department and citizens of Duluth in furtherance of the best interests of the city and all of its residents.

DULUTH HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION - Promotes cultural diversity in Duluth; promotes the elimination of hate, prejudice and discrimination against persons or groups based on race, gender, religion or other status of the person or group.

INDIGENOUS COMMISSION - Ensures that the views of the Indigenous Community are incorporated in the decision making, future planning, and stewardship of the city of Duluth; acts as a guide in the development of public policy, planning and services so that the Indigenous community is adequately represented in these processes and increase understanding and acceptance of the Indigenous Community and culture; increases Indigenous Community involvement in all aspects of community affairs in Duluth
